The Bouquet

 Dear Readers,

When I first moved to Winona, I had the privilege of teaching a fine young man in Algebra 3 and Calculus.  He was such a good student that I often used his tests to check my key.  If we didn't agree on an answer I would double check the key and his test.  It was about 50/50 on who made the careless error.  He went on to major in Math Education at Mississippi State and then eventually came to Winona High to teach math.  So we became colleagues.  When I decided to retire, he went on to take the classes that I taught and they hired another math teacher to take his place.  

Anyway, as life went on he married and his wife is now expecting their first child.  So I wanted to make them a baby quilt.  I had downloaded a pdf pattern from SewKindofWonderful called Flower Pop about a year ago and I have been waiting for a good opportunity to make that pattern.   I asked Andrew if they had a theme and he said they were painting the room a soft green color, but no theme.  So hopefully the quilt will fit in their nursery.

Butterfly In the Sky

 Dear Readers, 

A couple of weeks ago I went on a quilt retreat.  So over the next few days I will be showing some of finishes since I have finished quilting them.  

This first item is a table runner.  I made it because I need to make some Sew Kind of Wonderful examples if I am going to teach the patterns.  A lot of these patterns could be a wall hanging or table runner or you could make more blocks and make a full sized quilt.  

I custom quilted this Item with a different pattern on each butterfly and antennas coming out of the top of each butterfly and straight lines in the other negative space.  

So this is the first of a series of 3 posts on my finishes.

Bethlehem

 Dear Readers,

I had another finish this week.  This is the smallest version of a nativity quilt from Sew Kind of Wonderful.  It is about 42 X 40.  I found the custom quilting to be very challenging as the pieces are so small.  But I got it done.  

The quilting rulers made by Sew Kind of Wonderful made the quilting easier than the ones, I did without them.  Se here are close ups of each of the elements.  

And of course we need a photo of the back and the label.

The First Noel

 Dear Readers,

I finished another one of the Sew Kind of Wonderful nativity quilts.  This is the medium sized quilt, that they offer called Noel and is around 60 inches square.  I really struggled with the color choices in this one as the medium dark blue made most dark colors disappear.  They had to be pretty saturated to work.  It was fun too, so you need to try them if you get a chance.

And of course you need to see the back and the label.  I love the nativity fabric I found for this one.

Prophesy Fullfilled

 Dear Readers,

Last year after I made the "The Gift" a group of my quilting besties asked me to lead a sew a long to make a nativity quilt.  So two of the ladies decided to do other sizes.   This size makes a quilt that is about 82 x 82 and it is called Starry Night.  The medium size is called Noel and makes one about 52 x 57.  The small one is call O Little Town and makes a quilt 42 x 42.  So I decided to do all three quilts.  I did Starry Night  this time with a black background.  The other two tops are done and I will post about them once I get them quilted.  My SIL claimed this one.  So it will go to her. 

I wish I had been a bit bolder in choosing my quilting thread on the background.  I quilted it with black thread and made clouds and stars but none of it shows.  You have to look at it super close and even then it is hard to see.  I am going to post pictures of the individual elements and maybe if you zoom in you can see some of the quilting I did.  

And of course we need a picture of the back and the label...
