Bonnie Hunter Mystery Quilt

Dear Readers,

I decided to pull the trigger and go forward with the mystery quilt, but I am way behind.  I have been working on cutting up the clues as Bonnie releases them, but I have not had a chance to sit down at the machine in days, other than to do some Christmas happys.

So here is a picture of what I have accomplished.  I am using the green as my grey in order to a have a Christmas quilt.

I have everything cut except for the random neutrals for the last clue, but I thought I would wait till I got the 4 patches made and use the leftovers for that.
If you want to join in the fun, here is a link to Bonnies main mystery page.  This will only be good while the mystery is going on.

Here is a link back to the clue four page link page.  If I understand correctly, this will work even after the mystery ends.

I may up date this post as I get my Christmas cooking done!

Update #1

Clue 1 & 2 done (mostly)!  Clue one still needs the paper removed and pressing.

Update #2

Clue 3 done.  I will work on clue four tomorrow. All sewed out today.

Update #3

I did not catch all the way up.  I got seven sets done!!  But the others are kitted up and in my suitcase. I am on my way to Denver to make memories with my girl. If I have time to sew I will otherwise I will work on it when I get home. I still haven't pulled the paper off of clue one. But thought that might be a good airport activity!  I am fitting it in inbetween my life!!

Merry Christmas all!!

Will's guest room

Dear readers,

Got the binding on in time for Christmas.  I was giving it to Will on Friday as he will be heading to New York to spend Christmas with his father and his family for Christmas.  I am going to have to work on finding a good way to photograph quilts in Winona.  In Columbus I would hang them from the dog run on the front porch and they could hang over the edge of the porch if they were longer...but my house here is on a slab so it does not have that hanging space.  It was not light enough before leaving for work, so that left me photographing it in bright sun in the afternoon.  The fence on the other side has shrubs all along it so it is not a good option.  Thought that the bright sun washed it out a bit.

So then I tried to photo graph it on my deck outside the master bedroom as it was somewhat shaded, but that made it turn blueish.

Here it is on Will's guest room bed!  He is happy with the way it looks in his guest room.

Will always likes to help my name my quilts and he came up with the name, Threads of Love...so that is what I named this one.  I always like to put a verse on the label too and he helps with that also.   If you want to read about the making of this quilt, I wrote about it in this post.

Working on kitting up the mystery quilt, almost have the first three clues cut.  Soon I will start sewing...I hope!

Merry Christmas!  Sew long!

Easy Street Finish

Hey Readers,

Hope you are enjoying this Christmas season.  It has been busy as we tie up the end of a school semester and get ready for Christmas.  I did have a finish of Easy Street right before Thanksgiving, but have not had a chance to post a photo.  I named this quilt Chaos.

A lot of times I figure out the binding when I finish the quilt so I wind in tissue rolls to store it till I get the quilt quilted.  So it kept getting twisted when I had the roll in my lap as it was pulling off of the end of the roll.  So first I tried putting it on one command strip, under the sewing table.  That worked ok, but it did not pull very easily.  So I added another command strip and that worked like a charm.

My family was in for the Thanksgiving holiday.  It was so good to all be together.

With this arrangement it pulls easily and does not twist up.

We had our annual Christmas party the first Saturday in December.  It is always so good to get together with this group of ladies.  They are so inspirational!

Hopefully I will finish binding a couple of other quilts and post photos of them shortly.

Sew on!!

Easy Street update

Dear Readers,

I did it!  I finally got the borders on Bonnie Hunter's Easy Street last night, I had thought I would get them on during the school week, but I came down with a sinus infection that kicked out all my energy.  So I got them on during the football games on Saturday.  I was hoping the blue border would bring out the blue in the quilt, and it did help but not as much as I had hoped.

Thanksgiving is coming!!  And there  is a lot of cooking, cleaning and just general sprucing up to do before it gets here.  Today I have made cornbread and biscuits for stuffing, and still need to grate some fresh coconuts.  Then make a coconut cake.  On a quilting front I need to make the back and attach the zippers.  That should not take too long.  (hopefully!)

I am so thankful for my family, my home, my job with wonderful students that I love and my most importantly, my savior Jesus Christ.  May all of you find the comfort in his arms that I have.

Sew long,

Terry

Long arm quilting class

Hey readers,

I hope you are having a wonderful weekend.  It was an absolutely gorgeous day here in Mississippi.  One of those fall days that is bright, clear, crisp and cool.  Just a perfect day.  I got up and drove to Ridgeland Berninia Sewing Etc store to take a certification class to be able to rent a long arm machine.  To buy this sweet baby would not be worth it for the number of quilts I do...unless I did it as a business.  I don't think that is my calling at this point.

It was fun and I need a LOT more practice... many of my curves were not curved, so there will be a learning curve....pun intended.   I booked the machine for the Monday of Thanksgiving week and I bought some olive material that was marked down to use as the backing.  Since I am not happy with my Easy street quilt, I am going to use it as my practice quilt.

Before they let me test drive this baby, they showed us how to put zippers on the the backing.  That will allow you to quickly put your backing on the long arm.

I was better at the sit down machine, but I don't see me renting it, as I have my Juki at home.  It does have the advantage as it has a stitch regulator on it and my Juki doesn't.  So I will need to finish getting my Easy Street top together to use as a practice piece.

Sew on!!

bonnie hunter mystery part II

Hey Readers,

I was reading some of the quiltville FB group posts about their mystery quilt fabrics and decided to take black and white photos of my fabric and possibly change some out.

I was wondering if this green was too close in value to the red to provide the contrast needed to be a pretty quilt.  So I put my grey card on the fabric and took a black and white photo...

It seemed like the value was pretty close and not close to the value of the card.  I do love this green tho-

So I had this other green and I tried it...the lighter part of the check was not too far off, so maybe it will do but it is not near as pretty in color.

It is closer, but I am not sure I like it enough...I may go back to looking for a grey.

I have been working on another Bonnie mystery quilt I started a two years ago.  Easy street.  I changed some of those fabrics and I am not too happy with the result...

My colors did not right amount of contrast and were too busy...sigh.  I am going to keep going and and maybe it will be ok once it is quilted.  If you look in the bottom corner you can see some of the fabrics I am auditioning for the border...maybe that will be in the border.  I am leaning toward the orange inner border and maybe the blue and bound in green.

What I am really pleased with tho is a leader-ender I have been doing between joining pieces is the scrappy mountain quilt also by Bonnie Hunter.  Here is a link to her page and the instructions.   It is on her free tab of her blog.  I have made 84 of these and will probably shoot for 110.  They go together really fast.

I am super excited because I signed up with Bernina Sewing Etc, shop to get certified to run a long arm machine.  I do that next week.  I will let you know how it goes.   Hope you have a great week.

Bonnie Hunter's Mystery

Hey Readers,

It is mystery time again!!  This year I am in a position to do it!!  I am working on finishing the mystery from two years ago. Not loving it, but I have all the units made so it needs to be a quilt.  When I finish if I don't love it, I can always gift it to someone.  I think I can be done by Thanksgiving.  :)!  If you want to join in the current Bonnie Hunter mystery, here is a link to her blog post about it.  She gives great instructions.  This year it is called Allietare, which is an Italian word meaning to gladden or to rejoice!

Bonnie gives the numbers to paint cards to help guide you in picking your fabrics, but she does not mind if you change things up.  A matter of fact, I think she likes seeing her designs in other color ways.

I think I may add a few more blacks, I will be on the lookout for some fat quarters of black, and I may change the grey out too...I am still considering it.  I did see someone else's colors where they put green in for grey and brown in for black and made a fall quilt...and I am considering that too.  I love brown and I am sure I have enough in a big variety if I do.  I also have a lot of green so again I would not have to buy anything more...

It looks like Christmas if you change the grey to green.  I think I am liking that!
.I have so much fabric, I really seems a shame to not sew with what I have.  Decisions, decisions!!!

Will came last week end and hung my magnolia quilt.  I love it there.  I sent Coteworth's Cat to live at his house and he said the colors were great in the room he plans to hang it.  Now I need to finish a project to cover my fuse box in my laundry room, where it had been hanging.
