Keeping warm

Hey all,

My students are always complaining that it is cold in my room at school.  I must admit that at my age, I do like it cold.  But I am trying to take away their excuses.  One is it is too cold in here to concentrate.  And before you say why don't you just turn up the heat?  In this brave new world of fiscal savings teachers can no longer control their thermostats in our rooms.  I have had them out a few times to check the thermostat but they say it is working correctly.

So I decided to make jackets for my room.  So I bought cheap sweat shirts from WalMart.  So I have been splitting sweatshirts and turning them into jackets.  I figured that would stop any clothing malfunctions from pulling them over their heads.  (You have to think of everything!)  I cut the band off the bottom and the cuffs off and put double fold quilt binding on them.  And since I want them to stay in my room, I have been putting orphaned quilt squares on them and putting T^2 on the block....and no pockets...don't want them too comfortable.  Oh and I put a hanging loop in the neck so they can be put on a hook in my room.  It takes about an hour for the whole process.

I bought shirts sized XL to 4XL so there will be some that will fit everyone.  There is one more that is at school, that I forgot to photograph. Usually I only have about 6 that are not dressed appropriately, so hopefully this will be enough...now back to quilting!

Hey all,

I wanted to post pictures of my latest quilt.  I am keeping this one.  Wooooot.  I put it on my guest bed in the front bedroom.  Watana did the longarm quilting.  Click here to a link to her blog. I think she knocked it out of the park on this one.    I started this quilt when I first came to Mississippi permanently.  I finished the center, but was nervous about putting a pieced border on, so I packed it away and there it sat.  Well I started a reorganization project this summer and found this and project and decided that it was time to over come that and put it together.  So now it is done.  So I named the quilt Joyfully finished.  The pattern came from the book Country Threads by Mary Tendall and Connie Tesene.  Click here to link to amazon to purchase it.

AAQI quilts update

Hey all

Our quilts are on the web page...well not the pictures, but the names and numbers.  They are in the link,    waiting to be assigned.  Once photos are up I will make a MQA challenge page.  Here is a link here. Our numbers are in the range of 12,470's though the 12,490's.  Woot.

Surgery ... Oh, no!!

Hey all,

had surgery on my right thumb....and I am right handed.  I can type pretty well, but I am supposed to keep it elevated.  So I am typing one handed..  It is difficult to write.  So far not needing the pain pills.  I am sure it will be better when I can take the badge off.  I feel a nap coming on  ...

Craftsy Block of the Month

Hey all,

Finally got the pictures of the last blocks of the months uploaded to the computer!!   Woot!!

There are really only two blocks, but the had one that the geese flew clockwise.  And another one that to the geese flying counter clockwise.  You were supposed to pick one to make but I decided to make both.

There was another block that was more of a star design.

AAQI part II

Hey all,

I am super excited that I have finished my AAQI quilt for the Alzheimer's Art Quilt Initiative, that Judy challenged us to do.  I am going to wait to register it with them till just before the MQA Fall gathering.  That way I can show it at the MQA meeting Oct 20 in Cleveland, MS.  I made this in honor of my Uncle, Arnold T. Hammond.  Arnold played tennis a couple of times a week, and tennis is one of my passions.  So I chatted with his daughter in law, Carol Hammond, last Sunday and brainstormed on ideas and she suggested something tennis related.  So without further ado my quilt.  I made most of it last night during Bonnie Hunter's quilt cam time...I am really enjoying that, makes it like sewing with friends... I know she doesn't know me, but I feel like I know her as I have been reading her blog about a year and now with quilt cam, I don't know but it is like hanging out with a good friend,

Then in a mixed up moment, when signing the back, I realized I signed on the top corner and when the quilt is aligned correctly, that makes my signature upside down and on the top....totally wrong, but somewhat appropriate for a Alzheimer's quilt...so here is what the back looks like...
